Questions (5/13/2008)
This week at the Hub, Craig and his band were back leading worship! It was great!
Chad continued to lead us through conversations with different members of The Hub. This week he interviewed Matt and Camille and Mike Foster.
Matt and Camille spoke about their new marriage and the worthy fight for purity that they have both endured. Individually, they spoke about bad relationships that weighed them both down. They told us about moral failings and the grace of God that enabled them to keep their virginities when all else would have said otherwise.
Matt spoke about the battle that every man has to endure with lust. In our modern culture, pornography and masturbation are epidemic. In a very candid, and awkwardly delivered, speech, he told us how men, even Christian men, fight against this daily. He gave his unique experience as a result of what God can do when he is in control of our weaknesses.
Camille spoke about the lies that many women fall in to in dating relationships. She discussed a woman’s emotional need for love and how a woman’s body is often used to gain that emotional response. She broke down these lies and explained how God enables us to be whole with Him alone.
Together, they shared what a wonderful blessing marriage has been and how much their purity has impacted it.
After they finished, Mike came to the front and spoke. His words were about questions. He shared the struggles he has had with sickness; not only his own, but his family’s as well. Mike also told us about his station in life, how he expected more. He recently has had a book accepted for publication, a dream of his for years. He expected that to chang
e things, but it didn’t.
Mike was very honest as he shared his questions with us. He wonders why God let him be sick. Why are his sister and mom sick? Why has getting his book deal not fixed anything? Why does everyone around him seem to have a much easier life than he does?
In the end, he didn’t give us answers. He knows that God does not necessarily answer everything and he does not expect Him to. Mike’s desire was like J.D.’s last week. He wants us to be real. He wants for us all to get to know one another before we pass judgment. He wants fellowship in the body of Christ that is a deep and loving friendship. Maybe, with the help of each other, God will answer some of our questions.
