If you weren’t able to come on Tuesday night. Here’s what you missed!

While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. Matthew 26:26-28

If you’ve been to the Hub recently you’ve probably noticed a trend. I wouldn’t call it a “series” but the past 3-4 weeks have all centered around a theme. The Hub is more than just a Bible Community meeting at Irving Bible Church. It is a group of college-age students walking the road of life together, passionately and boldly pursing Christ. The past few weeks have been about getting to know each other and listening to the ways God has interacted with us. This week we came full circle as Chad brought us the message of The Lord’s Supper from a communal perspective.

The Alcove was filled with candles and pillows lined the floor. Many of us stood, some sat and all of us prepared our hearts to meet with the Lord as Craig led us in worship.

At the close of worship, Chad led us into the world of Jesus at the time of The Lord’s Supper. He walked around the room and broke bread and passed it out to everyone while describing what the disciples must have thought watching Jesus do the same thing. They were probably a little confused, especially when he said, “This is my body ” while holding up a small piece of bread. They were probably even more confused when he then said, “This is my blood” while holding up a glass of wine. As they listened to Jesus’ words they probably reflected on their past experiences with him.

Peter may have remembered the time he stepped out of the boat and tried to walk on the water toward Jesus. He may have remembered the way Jesus rescued him and restored his faith. Matthew may have reflected on his life before meeting Jesus. As a tax collector he probably feasted with important men on a regular basis and then one day he was asked to gave it all away. He may have looked upon Jesus’ face and remembered the emptiness he felt before and how thankful he was that Jesus called his name. The Lord’s Supper was taken in community among a group of men that did life together while following Christ.

Chad closed the message by explaining that the bread and wine (juice is what we actually had) are representations of what it means to follow Christ. He added that following Christ is also about community, walking together and encouraging each other to press on to a deeper relationship with Christ.
